Warm Up: We will observe a live electromagnetic demonstration and have a brief discussion of our observations.
Lesson: Today, we will continue our exploration of magnetism by watching this video. After watching the video we will discuss our biggest takeaways. Our goal today, it to look deeper into how the Earth's core generates it's own magnetic field. We also want to start understanding the relationship between electricity and magnetism (if there is time we'll build a simple compass).
Next we will read this article as a class and will try to make sense, again, of how the Earth's core is responsible for our magnetosphere. We will take a brief moment to explore convection currents with a class demonstration. ****Note: if you are not in-person today please watch this video for a visual of convection currents.
Lastly, we will conclude class by watching this awesome video about an artist who uses electromagnetism for his projects. Followed by a class demonstration with ferrofluid!
Conclusion: What is your biggest takeaway about Earth's magnetosphere?
*******NOTE: PLEASE RETURN ALL BORROWED RUBE MATERIALS TO TINA. MOSTLY, I WANT THE PULLEYS, HOT WHEELS TRACKS, AND MARBLES BACK!********
Google Classroom: None :)
