Instructor ContactEMAIL: [email protected]
This is the most effective way to communicate with me. With the current state of our educational system(s) at AHS I tend to check my email more frequently than other platforms. Also, I am being very intentional with my work/life/stress balance this year and will not be responding to emails after 6:00PM. I implore you to reach out to me sooner rather than later on all matters. Communication is key! OFFICE HOURS: By appointment only. I'm typically available during 1st period on Mon/Tues/Thurs/Fri and can schedule meetings after school most days. Please email me or speak with me in class, during independent work time, to set up a time to chat. COURSE FEE: $10 to cover the cost of dissection |

Course Description
This course is intended to be college preparatory and rigorous. Although I do not believe that lecture-based learning is the most effective way to teach content, I recognize that sitting through lectures, taking notes, and studying for and passing exams are skills that you'll need in the post-secondary education world. For each body system we cover, starting with the skeletal system, there will be two types of exams. The first exam will be a diagram of the body system we're studying, and you'll be asked to label the appropriate parts. The second exam will be a combination of multiple choice and short answer questions. Also, for each body system there will be an accompanying case study for you to work on. The case studies are meant to give you a sense of what it would be like to be responding to a patient in a medical setting. Each case study presents you with a patient, some of their backstory, and their current condition and symptoms. You'll respond to several questions about the macro- and micro-anatomy functions and structures that are relevant to the case. Lastly, there will be a dissection lab portion for this class. In the past we've dissected sheep hearts and brains. This semester I'm hopeful that we can take a trip to Fort Lewis College Anatomy Lab for our dissections.
Grading Procedures & Policies |
Google Classroom & Digital Portfolio |
Your grade in this course will be determined by a weighted average of your performance in the following categories. Final grades (A, A- etc.) are determined according to AHS grading scale.
Checking Your Grade: Infinite Campus. All of your grades for this course will be updated in IC regularly. |
I will be using two online formats to organize our class.
|
Late Work Policy |
Absences & Tardiness |
All assignments are expected to be completed and ready to turn in at the beginning of class on the day they are due unless otherwise specified. I intend to treat this class as a college class and will not accept late work after the day it is due unless there are extenuating circumstances.
|
When you are absent it is your responsibility to determine what you missed and make arrangements to make it up in a timely manner. When the absence is excuse you will have as many days as you were absent to make up the work. If the absence is unexcused the missed work may not be made up for credit. All consequences outlined in the Student Handbook will apply.

Exam Retakes |
How to Retake an Exam |
Although you are unlikely to come across this policy in a collegiate setting it is not my goal to completely crush you, our GPA, and your hopes and dreams. For each of our exams, if you score an 80% or less, you will have 5 school days to retake the exam. The highest score you can earn on the exam will be an 80%. I want to encourage you to hone your study skills and to be able to take an exam, and get an excellent score, the first time around. This is why you will not be able to receive higher than a B- on a retake.
|
In order to retake an exam I ask that you email me with a request to do so and times that work for you. I'm typically available after school, except on Mondays, and can be available during lunch and my prep periods. Again, you have 5 school days to communicate with me and get your exam retake completed.
